Polembros Group

Polembros Shipping and Polembros Bulkers are private ship management companies based in Athens, Greece, dedicated to the safe and efficient management of ocean-going vessels. Polembros Shipping has been in existence since 1974 - though the shareholders’ family has been in shipping, as captains, chief engineers, and later as ship-managers since the 19th century. Polembros Shipping currently manages a fleet of Aframax and Suezmax tankers whereas Polembros Bulkers manages vessels ranging from Handysize to Newcastlemax.

In the early 1970s, Polembros Shipping established itself as a pioneer in the oil transportation industry after transporting the first North Sea oil and later the first British oil ever produced. Polembros continued to carry to shore the entire production from Argyle field until the field closed in 1992.

Later in the 1980s, capitalizing on its offshore shuttle tanker operation expertise, Polembros expanded its operations to the growing Brazilian oil industry. In 1982 a Polembros vessel was the first foreign ship to load from Brazil’s offshore fields. The Polembros Brazilian shuttle tanker fleet eventually grew to boast 8 vessels.

The 1990s and 2000s saw the rise of China. While still maintaining a global presence Polembros developed deeper relations with the Far East and substantially grew it’s dry bulk fleet in order to meet the demands of a rapidly growing China.

In the 2010s, Polembros embarked on a vigorous fleet renewal program, totaling 30 new vessels (13 dry and 7 newbuildings, as well 5 second-hand bulkers and 5 tankers), positioning itself to better service its clients across the globe and their ever more stringent needs. With the significant expansion of the dry bulk fleet, the shareholders of Polembros Shipping decided to create a separate management company, Polembros Bulkers, dedicated to the management and operation of dry bulk vessels.

Worthington Group

Since its foundation in 1986, Worthington Shipping has harbored Polembros Shipping's ship operating opportunities. Specializing in operating South American grain and steel cargoes since 1993, Worthington is the longest-standing coastal operator in the region. Thirty eight years on, Worthington continues to deliver a well-recognized service to the dry bulk industry as a ship owner and operator, maintaining a strong focus on South American Handysize trade alongside a global trade of Panamax and Post-panamax vessels, including commerically managed tonnage.

All three companies are devoted to continuously improving their service and particularly committed to ensuring their ships are operated safely and efficiently, with capable and reliable marine personnel. Relying on invaluable seamanship knowledge, on shore and at sea, innovative technologies and a clear vision for the future, Polembros Shipping, Polembros Bulkers and Worthington Shipping are determined to continue their diligent pursuit of excellence.
